Businesses should set themselves up and operate in a way that offers both if they want to keep consumers’ trust and their business.
Greater privacy and control over personal data is the new user experience. The past two decades’ free-wheeling harvesting of consumer data has created a false dichotomy between personalization and privacy. In fact, consumers want a more personalized experience when they’re online. And, they want greater control over what data companies collect and share with their vendors in order to deliver that experience. They shouldn’t have to make a choice between the two. Businesses should set themselves up and operate in a way that offers both if they want to keep consumers’ trust and their business. By doing so, they also avoid the penalties of a rising number of data privacy laws.
